TUT - Getting Rid of Watermarks and Unwanted Patterns

Hi,
We all have faced the situations when we are texturing a scene and needing a pattern, symbol, logo or something, but all we can find on the web is watermarked!

So, how do you get rid of them?!
You can always use your photo editing tool such as Photoshop and clean it up by erasing, sampling or even re-painting! That’s a paint in the a##! :) Although sometimes we have to that :(, there are some easy ways to get the results, FAST!

This is how I get rid of the watermarks and unwanted patterns:

EXAMPLE #1

In this example we have a Libra symbol which has watermarks all over it, and needs to be getting rid of!

1. Open the file in Photoshop.
2. Double click the Background layer and hit Ok, to unlock it.
3. Add a Levels Adjustment layer, and play with it until you get the desired results (not seeing the watermarks)!

4. Merge all the layers (Ctrl + Shift + E).
5. Now, select the undesired color with your Magic Wand Tool (in our example, white color). Then go to Select > Similar.
6. Hit Delete. Now we have our symbol without any watermark and on a transparent background :)

7. You can use Adjustment and Layer Styles to change your symbol how you want it. I added some adjustment to change the color to orange!

EXAMPLE #2

In this example we have a logo with undesired patterns which I don’t like!

1. Open the file in Photoshop.
2. Double click the Background layer and hit Ok, to unlock it.
3. Add a Gaussian Blur with value of 1.5 to blur out some of that pattern.
4. Add a Brightness/Contrast Adjustment layer to increase the contrast.

5. Add a Levels Adjustment layer and play with it till you get the desired results!

6. Merge all the layers (Ctrl + Shift + E).
7. Now, select the undesired color with your Magic Wand Tool (in our example, white color). Then go to Select > Similar.
8. Hit Delete. Now we have our logo without any pattern and on a transparent background :)

NOTES:
- You may lose some small details but it worth it :)
- You may need to clean up some spots but this is always a quick way to get rid of undesired stuff! :)

Hope this was helpful
Have Fun
